What is Cerakote?

Cerakote is a Polymer-Ceramic Composite coating that can be applied to metals, plastics, polymers and wood. The unique formulation used for Cerakote ceramic coating enhances a number of physical performance properties including abrasion/wear resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, impact strength, and hardness. Each of these properties is rigorously tested to guarantee that Cerakote products remain at the forefront of the ceramic coatings market. Cerakote ceramic coatings utilize state-of-the-art technology to out-perform any competitive coating.

How is my gun prepared for Cerakote?

First it must be fully disassembled; every spring, pin & lever. Next, all parts to be coated are soaked in acetone and then baked for hours to draw oil and impurities out of the pores of the metal. This process is then repeated, as many times as necessary, to insure all contaminants are removed. Then, they are sandblasted down to bare metal. Finally, they are hand sprayed with the Cerakote, and heat cured for several hours. Poof, done.

Is the finish guaranteed?

We guarantee our work. We test each piece before it leaves, and if problems develop for any reason, we will re-do it. Understand that while Cerakote will hold up to hard use, it is not magic. You will see wear over time in the same places that you would see wear on any firearm finish; on moving parts (e.g. slide to frame,) holster wear, etc.

Will Cerakote change the function of my firearm in anyway?

Not at all.  One point to note is that while the Cerakote is a very thin layer, moving parts in tight tolerance may “stick” a little until they are worked a bit. As part of our process, we work the parts so that there is a smooth action between them.

How do I care for my firearm once Cerakote has been applied?

The same way you did before Cerakote was applied. It requires no special care or treatment.
